A Guide to Tom Ford Fragrances
Tom Ford launches his signature fragrance collection in 2006 with the iconic fragrance Black Orchid eau de parfum. In 2007, he created his own scent laboratory called The Private Blend Collection. Over the last 20 years, the brand has grown exponentially, has been worn by the biggest names in pop culture, and truly has something for everyone.
But with over 100 fragrances created since the brand’s creation, finding a fragrance can be a daunting task . From fresh citrus scents to deep woods, leather, vanilla, florals, and gourmands - it can be hard to know where to start. The brand covers a wide range of fragrance styles, so the best place to begin is by figuring out what you already love wearing.
Here are a few Tom Ford fragrances I recommend exploring first:
Oud Wood
If you gravitate toward warm, woody fragrances, Oud Wood is an easy place to start. It feels smooth, refined, and understated compared with some of Tom Ford’s more dramatic scents. It’s the kind of fragrance that can work just as well dressed up as it does for everyday wear. Dillard’s currently carries Oud Wood within its Tom Ford fragrance assortment.
Lost Cherry
Lost Cherry is one of the brand’s most recognizable fragrances — inspiring both the beauty side of Tom Ford and the creation of two new cherries: Electric Cherry and Cherry Smoke. This luscious, full-bodied fragrance combines black cherry with cherry liqueur with a touch of bitter almond to create a bold, sweet, noticeable scent that’s unexpected but addictive.
Ombré Leather
Ombré Leather is for someone who wants fragrance with a little more edge. The leather character is prominent, but the overall scent has enough warmth and softness to keep it wearable. It’s bold without necessarily being overwhelming, and it’s one I recommend trying if your usual fragrances lean woody, smoky, or spicy.

If you typically opt for a scent on the fresher side, Neroli Portofino transports you to an iconic resort town on the Italian RivieraThis is the perfect scent for someone who likes crisp, citrus-forward scents or wants something lighter for warmer weather.
The biggest advice I can give when shopping Tom Ford’s Private Blend collection, which are the scents I’ve written about, is to have fun with them. This unisex line is meant to be layered, or “styled,” together to create your own personal scent. Again, this collection is Tom Ford’s personal scent laboratory, meant to be exerimental and defy convention. A fragrance you’re unsure or have grown tired of can come alive again with the right pairing.
